The Project: Career Event

Our event took place on 27/01/2013. We were lucky enough to work with 8 great young people who wanted further help and guidance at an important milestone in their lives. Below are there profiles and there own perspectives of what the day entailed, including some desires for their future..

Amy

Teacher
My name is Amy, and I aspire to be a teacher. I have always wanted to help children because I was really inspired by my year 9 English Teacher who taught in a really energetic way and basically made it fun rather than boring as most of my other lessons where. I think being a teacher is a really good ambition as many children dont have decent teachers and I think it is important that all children get an education so they can go on to acheive whatever they want in life. I didn't quite know how to become a teacher, but thanks to 'Generation Aspire' I have been provided with some information as to how I can acheive this, through websites such as the Department for Education Agency I have found a clear path into what I need to do to become a teacher. Thanks Generation Aspire!

Joshua

Army
My name is Joshua, and I aspire to join the army. 'Generation Aspire' has pointed me to a careers clinic in Loughton where I can go and meet with an army careers adviser and speak to an actual soldier to decided whether it is a career path I really want to pursue. I am excited about going and have made an appointment to go in 2 weeks time. In the meantime 'Generation Aspire' have shown me the British Army Website where I can look at the different roles available in the army and find out general information.

Sarah

Journalist

My name is Sarah, and I aspire to become a journalist. Writing has always been something that I have loved doing, whether it be for an essay at school or at home. I think journalism is a really important part of society because it informs everyone of what is going on. Chasing the news around the world seems like a really exciting thing to do and that is why I would love to do it. 'Generation Aspire' has been really helpful in showing me some of the ways in which I could become a journalist, such as, working my way up from a local paper, to joining the BBC as a runner or going to university and studying journalism, to going on courses at the London School of Media and Journalism.

Melisa

Restaurant Manager

My name is Melisa, and I aspire to be a restaurant manager. I have always wanted to be a restaurant manager even though it seems quite a random thing to do. I love the busyness of the kind of environment a restaurant has and think that it would be really exciting and challenging job to have. 'Generation Aspire' has advised me to do further research into the area and have advised me to see organisations such as 'Prospects' who can give me greater insight and advise. I have found some of my many options are to attend catering college, or apply for jobs in restaurants and work my way up through the ranks learning about the business as I go.
